Symptoms of Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative Disc Disease causes horrific lower back pain, which often radiates down into the legs. Other symptoms of this disease include pain that is difficult to treat. Many times, a person suffering from Degenerative Disc Disease will not respond to standard treatment options. This means that things such as muscle relaxants, rest, and even physical therapy do not work. With this disease, the problem comes on gradually and causes a change in the lumbar portion of the spine. Eventually, the spine’s structure and/or function will be affected. Typically, a disease such as this involves the intervertebral discs, usually caused by age, overuse or misuse, and old-fashioned wear and tear. While this can occur in the cervical portion of the spine, this is much rarer.
