What Does Endoscopic Spine Surgery Involve?Endoscopic spine surgery may be needed to treat various disorders of spinal discs. This type of surgery is considered minimally invasive and poses less of a risk than conventional surgery. It is performed by puncturing several small incisions, each about less than one inch in total diameter. An endoscope is then passed through the incisions, along with other small surgical instruments. The endoscope is a thin tube with a camera attached to it. This lets a surgeon, and his or her team, view the interior surface on a monitor. Ordinarily, this clear of a view would not be possible without cutting more area, and thus risking more trauma. Endoscopic spine surgery also allows the doctor to work on the spine with minimal complications.
