Understanding Laser Spine Surgery
For people living with a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and other spinal problems, surgery is the only option. One of these is laser spine surgery, which would vary depending on the problem and severity of the problem. For instance, for the lumber part of the back, laser spine surgery might include a discectomy. In this case, the surgeon would keep the patient awake during which time a thin needle would be inserted into the disc area where the problem exists. Then, a tiny incision would be made on the back through which an endoscope would be inserted. The diseased area of the spine is removed and with the laser, the tissue surrounding the bone would be laser treated to vaporize it. In most cases, this type of surgery is highly successful, bringing great pain relief.
